Wedding FAQs

Who can get married at Unity Church?
Unity Church is a free and inclusive religious community that encourages lives of integrity, service, and joy. We welcome couples who are both members of our church, non-members, and those not affiliated with a church or a religion. There is no requirement to be a Unitarian Universalist. We are happy to provide space for LGBTQ+ people and people who are marrying across the difference of their own religious backgrounds.
What is the rental Fee?
Guest weddings pay a $500 damage deposit (refunded 10 business days after the wedding) and a $2,500 rental fee. $1,500 (which includes the $500 deposit) is due immediately to secure your date. The remaining $1,500 is due 30 days before your ceremony.

Fees are different if you are a voting member of the congregation. Please contact [email protected] for details about member wedding fees.
what days are available for weddings?
We have set aside Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. for weddings. If you are looking for another day of the week, you can make a request, and we will see if our calendar fits your needs. We do not schedule weddings on Sundays. To find out if the church is available for your wedding day, please fill out the inquiry form on this page.
What is the capacity of your wedding spaces?
Ames Chapel seats up to 75 people and the Sanctuary seats up to 400 people.
Can we tour the building before we decide?
Yes. We are happy to schedule a wedding tour for you. Please fill out the wedding inquiry form and the church's wedding coordinator will reach out to ask when you would like to visit.
Can we bring our own minister?
Does Unity provide us with a minister?
Weddings must have a Unity Church approved officiant in place soon after the reservation is made. Couples can choose from the list of approved ministers who are willing to perform a wedding at Unity Church for $750.  The minister honorarium includes ceremony planning, two premarital counseling sessions, a one-hour rehearsal, and presiding over your ceremony. If you have an officiant in mind, they must meet in person or over the phone with our senior minister to determine whether they are allowed to perform this ritual in our sacred space. The wedding couple is responsible for scheduling this meeting.
Are we required to do premarital counseling?
Yes, these sessions are meant for you and the minister to get to know each other and are an important tool used to prepare for your ceremony.
Who picks the music and musicians?
You! You may choose to hire musicians from outside of Unity Church or ask us for our recommendations. Wedding couples are responsible for paying musicians directly. In addition, the Sanctuary has a sound system through which you can play pre-recorded music. Ahmed Anzaldúa, Unity's Director of Music Ministries, may be willing to consult with you about your wedding music depending on your needs and his schedule. He can be reached via email at [email protected].
What are decoration guidelines?
Wedding couples are invited to decorate as much, or as little, as they would like. However, we ask that any decorations do no harm to the building and that all decorations are cleaned up within 30 minutes of the ceremony's conclusion.
When is the rehearsal?
The rehearsal is usually scheduled for the evening before your wedding between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. However, if that will not work for your group, we can be flexible with timing so long as we have ample notice to make a reservation in the church calendar.
What is the parking situation?
We have a 15-car parking lot connected to our building with a loading zone. This parking lot is accessed just east of our 732 Holly Avenue entrance. Additionally, our parking lot at 25 Saint Albans Street North (located one block east of our main entrance) can accommodate another 30 cars. There is also ample street parking surrounding the church.
Can we hold a reception at the church?
Unity Church does not host wedding receptions. However, the church is located in the heart of Saint Paul, within a few miles of several superb reception venues.
We are interested in booking our wedding at Unity Church --what’s next?
