Weddings at Unity Church

Unity Church is happy to host weddings for both members and non-members. We can host small, intimate weddings in our Ames Chapel and larger weddings in our Sanctuary. The church is located in the heart of Saint Paul within a few miles of several superb reception venues. • Who can get married at Unity Church-Unitarian?

  Unity Church is a free and inclusive religious community that encourages lives of integrity, service, and joy. We welcome couples who are both members of our church, non-members, and those not affiliated with a church or a religion. There is no requirement to be a Unitarian Universalist. We are happy to provide space for LGBTQ+ people and people who are marrying across the difference of their own religious backgrounds.

• Do I have to be a member of the church?

  You do not need to be a member of Unity Church-Unitarian.

• What days are available for weddings?

  While weddings are often held on Saturdays and Sundays, other days of the week may be available. At this time, we do not schedule weddings on Sundays. To find out if the church is available for your wedding day, please fill out the inquiry form on this page.

• What is the capacity of the ceremony spaces?

  Ames Chapel seats up to 75 people and the Sanctuary seats up to 400 people.

• Can we tour the building before we decide?

  Yes. We are happy to schedule a wedding tour for you. Please fill out the wedding inquiry form and the church's wedding coordinator will reach out to ask when you would like to visit.

• Can the church provide us with a minister? What is the fee?

  Yes. The fee is $800 for both members and non-members and includes ceremony planning, two premarital counseling sessions, a one hour rehearsal, and presiding over your ceremony. More premarital counseling sessions are available upon request, and, for some ministers, more premarital sessions may be required.

• Can we bring our own minister?

  Yes, you are welcome to bring a minister not affiliated with Unity Church. However, you will need to submit their contact information for approval by Unity’s ministerial staff.

• Are we required to do premarital counseling?

  Members and non-members who are hiring a minister through Unity Church are asked to complete at least two premarital counseling sessions with their minister. If you bring your own minister, you will work with them to discuss their prerequisites to your wedding day.

• Who picks the music and musicians?

  You! You may choose to hire musicians from outside of Unity Church or ask us for our recommendations. Wedding couples are responsible for paying musicians directly. In addition, the Sanctuary space has a sound system through which you can play pre-recorded music.

• What are the guidelines around decorations?

  Wedding couples are invited to decorate as much, or as little, as they would like. However, we ask that any decorations do no harm to the building and that all decorations are cleaned up within 30 minutes of the ceremony's conclusion.

• What are the fees and what do they include?

  All fees include a refundable damage deposit of $150. Fees for Non-members (also non-pledging members and friends) Chapel: $900 Sanctuary: $1050 Fees for pledging members Chapel: $300 Sanctuary: $500 Your wedding fee includes five hours on your wedding day, one hour for a rehearsal the evening before your wedding day, and Unity Church staff members to assist with security, facilities, and coordination on your wedding day.

• When is the rehearsal?

  The rehearsal is usually scheduled for the evening before your wedding at 4:00, 5:00, or 6:00 p.m. However, if that will not work for your group, we can be flexible with timing so long as we have ample notice to make a reservation in the church calendar.

• What is the parking situation at Unity Church?

  We have a 15 car parking lot connected to our building with a loading zone. Additionally, we have a 30 car lot on St. Albans and Portland Avenue. There is also ample street parking surrounding the church.

• Can we hold the reception at the church?

  Unity Church does not host wedding receptions. However, the church is located in the heart of Saint Paul, within a few miles of several superb reception venues.

• We think we are ready to book our ceremony, what are the next steps?

  Fill out the inquiry form. You will then be contacted by church staff to schedule a building tour and go over the fee structure. When you have solidified your wedding date and interest in Unity Church, you will fill out the wedding contract and submit your deposit.
