Position Title: Manager of Community Outreach Ministries
Purpose of Position: To develop and strengthen the congregation’s justice work, structured through lay-led Community Outreach Ministry Teams (COMTs) focused on specific justice issues, in ways that advance the church’s values, mission, and ends.
Reports to: Senior Minister
Classification: .75 FTE / Salaried / Exempt
Compensation: Salary range $51,000 to $57,000, based on experience, generous benefits, and opportunities for spiritual growth.
Principal Responsibilities
Equip COMTs for community partnership, congregational education, and advocacy in the public square around each team’s focus area.
Write grants to secure long-term funding for the position and for special projects for the COMTs.

- Experience & Qualifications:
- Core commitment to anti-racism, multiculturalism, climate, and economic justice, and the ability to develop others’ skills in these areas.
- Knowledge of/experience with the structures, approaches, challenges, and opportunities of congregation-based community organizing.
- Ability to help groups engage challenge and conflict.
- Ability to inspire groups for their larger purpose and help them align their work to that purpose.
- Ability to guide teams through projects from conception to completion.
- Ability to collaborate with many people across differences in service to a larger end.
- Clear oral and written communication, particularly about the role of faith in justice work.
- Proficient in technology and social media to support justice organizing efforts.
- Ability to write grants.
- Knowledge of Unitarian Universalist values, theologies, practices, and congregational life, preferred.

- Strategize with the teams so their work will advance the church’s values, mission, and ends.
- Train as needed in organizing skills and antiracist multicultural practice.
- Ensure teams establish and deepen right relationship with their community partner organization(s).
- Foster connections between teams where their work intersects. e. Lead established teams through a regular renewal process to keep their work and commitments vital.
- Lead new teams through the application process to gain COMT status.
- Shepherd team education programs for the congregation from concept to desired outcome(s) to the design that will deliver the outcome(s).
- Organize two COMT summits each church year to connect teams to one another and the larger purpose of their work, and to provide practical information they need to do their work well.
- Participate in public ministry in service to the church’s ends.
- Challenge COMTs to make the connection between their justice work and their faith.
- Train COMTs in spiritual practice to ground their work in Unitarian Universalist values.
Write grants to secure long-term funding for the position and for special projects for the COMTs.
Participate in shared ministry:
- Attend weekly staff meetings and occasional retreats.
- Participate in congregational life Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.
- Other meetings as needed.
