Position Title: Facilities Specialist | Application
Purpose of Position: To support the mission and the program life of the church by attending to the facilities, grounds and operations of Unity Church.   
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Status: Hourly & Non-Exempt; Benefit-Earning at 15+ hours a week, $24/hour

Qualifications:                       
Facilities Specialists must be able to:

• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Complete assigned tasks independently and effectively.
• Identify tasks that need attention and suggest or initiate action to complete them.
• Use maintenance equipment appropriately and safely.
• Follow building procedures.
• Perform building and grounds work, including safely lifting 50 pounds.
• Work well on a team.
• Communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
• Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends for regular and special events.
• Dependably show up for work on time.
• Approach people with cultural sensitivity.

 
Principal Responsibilities:    

• Assure that the building and grounds are clean and safe, following the church’s safety and sanitizing protocols.
• Operate and maintain church equipment, tools and supplies.
• Participate in maintenance and capital projects as assigned.
• Complete room setups, tear downs and shift work, following the instructions in the church calendar and daily task lists.
• Communicate with staff, congregants, vendors and visitors about their event location and building needs.
• Maintain situational awareness, knowing what events are happening in the building and appropriate responses to emergencies.
• Attend staff meetings and other scheduled staff events as appropriate.
• Open and/or close the facility – using the security system – as schedule requires.
• Actively seek education and training opportunities in building equipment and systems.

Purpose of Position: To maintain the buildings and grounds of Unity Church and ensure they provide a positive, safe, respectful, and welcoming environment in support of the mission and ends of the church. 
Reports to: Executive Director
Status: 1.0 FTE Salaried / Exempt / $69,900/year

Qualifications:                          

• Proficiency in facilities best practices and standard repairs & maintenance
• Ability to manage both operational and project budgets
• Ability to manage both day-to-day tasks and longer-term project work
• Boiler’s license (in hand or in process)
• Valid Mn driver’s license with clean driving record
• Ability to lift 60 pounds
• Supervisory experience
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Computer skills
• Proven problem-solving ability
• Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations, promoting equity and diversity.

Principal Responsibilities:    
1. Supervise Facilities Staff:

• Create schedules and assign tasks so that facilities staff provide the set-up and support needed for weekly meetings and events. Collaborate with the Events & Technology Coordinator to determine needed coverage.
• Train staff in standard facilities procedures including shift duties, equipment use, supplies, safety, security and Unity’s Emergency Action Plan.
• Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to hire and terminate facilities staff members.
• Conduct annual staff evaluations

2. Oversee the maintenance and repair of the church’s buildings, grounds and equipment within budget parameters

• Maintain inventory of custodial and housekeeping products. 
• Engage vendors to do preventive maintenance and certification as required.
• Perform standard repairs and maintenance and/ or engage vendors as needed to repair property and equipment.
• Manage the boilers and the HVAC system for heating & air conditioning to optimize comfort and efficiency.
• Interact with church members who have questions and needs about church building and grounds.

  3. Maintain Vendor Relationships

• Participate in vendor selection based on the church’s criteria for equity.
• Partner with and hold vendors accountable to agreed-upon work.
• Maintain transparency and good will with vendors to ensure healthy working relationships.

  4. Implement Capital Building Projects and Repairs

• Advise Executive Director on the development of annual capital budgets.
• Gather bids as requested for capital acquisitions and major repairs, presenting multiple bids to the Executive Leadership for consideration and approval.
• Schedule and oversee capital projects with vendors.
• Oversee the disposal of assets.

  5. Implement Life Cycle Plan

• Develop and then maintain a life-cycle plan for Unity’s facilities that tracks the useful life of Unity’s facilities and equipment and projects replacement needs.

6. Provide Emergency On-Call

• Be available by cell phone in case of an alarm system breach or a facility emergency.

7. Other duties as reasonably assigned.
