Food Ministry
Vegan Dinners
In response to your requests, we are proud to announce the arrival of once-monthly vegan dinners plus a whole month of vegan dinners in January as we observe Veganuary (I heard it pronounced veh-GAHN-uary the other day!). We will continue to offer vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free meals each week, as well as a sun-butter and jelly station for kids.
Canned Local Tomatoes
In an effort to capture the bounty of summer, we canned tomatoes in hopes we won't need to purchase canned tomatoes that were grown and processed who knows where. You might think this would save money, but we spent $350 on tomatoes grown locally, while the same number of canned tomatoes from our large purveyor (Sysco) would have been $250. It’s all part of our efforts to support local farmers who may not have access to the subsidies provided to agribusiness.
Price Increase
To keep up with inflation impacting us all, ensure that dinner revenue and costs break even, and to maintain our commitment to local, sustainable, healthy food, the price of a Wellspring Wednesday dinner will increase to $12 per person and $30 per family. We hope you’ll still feel this provides a terrific value for a made-from-scratch meal aligned with our values.
Bring Your Own Container for Leftovers
When you bring your own reusable container to pack up Wellspring Wednesday leftovers, the church spends less money on compostable takeout containers, and we reduce the number of containers in the compost. We will also put out a donation basket if those taking leftovers are able/willing to contribute additionally.
We'll see you in the kitchen!
