The Obama School Ministry Team serves the scholars and staff at the elementary school located directly across the street from Unity Church. Vision and Purpose for the Obama School Team
Our four goals detail our vision and purpose and how we hope to make a difference:

1. Enhance the learning of Obama scholars.
2. Support the faculty and staff at the school, in coordination with the PTO.
3. Aid the school community as it transitions and is established in the Unity Church neighborhood.
   
4. Create and maintain a leadership team that supports positive volunteer experiences at the school.

Team News: July 2026

The 2025-26 school year was challenging for the school community in several ways. The Montessori Elementary School moved from a beloved old building into the newly renovated school across the street from the church. A new Middle School was created in the west tower to share the space. Operation Metro Surge affected the entire school community — staff, students, and families. Through it all, our Unity Church volunteers were a steady and calming presence, whether they were standing on the corners with whistles, shelving books in the library, distributing food packs to student backpacks on Fridays, or assisting students in the classrooms. What we provided cannot be measured, but we know we made a difference. 

As we look forward to another year, we plan to continue with our support of the school community. In the fall, we’ll be looking for additional volunteers so please give it some thought and watch for announcements about how to get involved.
