2012 Women's Retreat Offerings
_Session One • 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
BodyMind Practices to Awaken your Soul Katy Taylor will lead an exploration of ways to get into your body and out of your mind! We’ll start with a short Laughter Yoga session and then grow our awareness of a deeper and more embodied sense of self through somatic attention, breath, sounding, and more. Singing Yourself Your voice is the only instrument in the world that is immediately connected with your whole self. What is it that you are really ‘singing’ when you sustain sound and release your voice? Even if you consider yourself a “non-singer,” this workshop led by Ruth Palmer will help you explore and cultivate your self-expression. More Outrageousness and Finding Our “Muchness” Guided by your requests, Peg Lonnquist will continue the conversation about being outrageous and finding our muchness* and/or continue other outrageous-making workshop exercises. *The Mad Hatter to Alice, “You were much more . . . muchier. You’ve lost your muchness.” Book Discussion: “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” Outrageousness comes in many forms, from the sweet girl next door who raises money for an animal shelter to the dark, twisted, heavily pierced main female character of Lisbeth in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” Lisbeth is disturbingly outrageous and makes us question the very description of what a good girl looks like. Session Two • 1:45–3:15 p.m. Courageous, Outrageous, Everyday Living Literary Minister Karen Hering will lead a guided writing session exploring the nature of courage and how we claim it in our day-to-day lives. No writing experience needed. Outrageous Acts Panel There is outrageousness in each of us. Join moderator Becca Pournoor for this workshop to meet an intergenerational panel of outrageous Unity women. Who knows, the woman sitting right next to you may have some outrageous life experience that connects with your outrageousness. Outrageous! Spiritual Practice To many of us the idea of everyday spiritual practice may feel outrageous. Join Rev. Janne Eller-Isaacs in exploring ways to tap into your spirituality in everyday life. Outrageous Intimacy Come learn and share about some outrageous ways we can experience deep connection in unlikely places. Together with leader Jennifer Swick, explore brain science, stories and other mediums to help expand our experience of intimacy. Session Three • 3:30–5:00 p.m. Mask Making: Face of an Outrageous Woman In this workshop led by Kathy Schur we will have fun creating our own mask. A mask is a way to open up parts of ourselves that we hide behind our everyday face. We will create a personal mask as a way to explore our outrageous self and release hidden energy. Women’s Drumming Circle The Women’s Drum Center believes women drummers promote joy, inclusiveness, respect and unity in community. Limited to 25 participants. Out-rageous Lesbian Panel Being outrageous sometimes includes acts of courageous honesty which may place a woman at risk to judgment and alienation from her family, friends and coworkers. One act that often raises fear of upheaval, schism and pain is when a woman decides to inform others she is a lesbian. Hear a panel of UU women facilitiated by Pat Gordon-Rice tell their stories of be-coming out-rageous. Six Degrees of Outrageous Connection Have you ever heard of speed-dating? Join Rachel Lonberg, Unity’s Hallman Ministerial Intern and Barbara Ford for fun and fruitful exercises in speed-connecting with other women from Unity. This will be an outrageous way to make new friends! |
