“We, the members of Unity Church-Unitarian, approve the recommendation of the board that we become a Welcoming Congregation. As a Welcoming Congregation, we share and embrace the concerns of bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender persons and allies at every level of congregational life.” Please read the letter from the UUA officially acknowledging Unity Church-Unitarian as a Welcoming Congregation. Unity Church has begun the journey to become a Welcoming Congregation. The Welcoming Congregation Program is a program developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association for congregations who wish to become more inclusive toward people who are bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender (b/g/l/t). It includes a series of workshops whose goal is to increase understanding and acceptance among people of different sexual orientations, genders and gender presentations. Throughout the Welcoming Congregation process, Unity Church will intentionally study the way our church includes and addresses the needs of b/g/l/t persons at every level of congregational life—in worship, in programs, in social occasions, and in rites of passage—welcoming not only their presence, but the gifts and particularities of their lives as well. At Unity Church, the Welcoming Congregation program is sponsored by the Welcoming Congregation Ministry Team. This team includes both b/g/l/t and non-b/g/l/t people who accept sexual orientations different from their own. |
