Summer Sundays for Kids |
Religious Education Overview
Sunday mornings at Unity are opportunities for children and adults to come together to share in exploration of our liberal religious heritage, our common values and our individual journeys toward truth. Our goal is to cultivate and sustain in our young people a love of the spiritual life, a foundation for a personal theology and a confidence in their ability to be stewards of their own souls.
At every level, our curricula are guided by five classical theological questions:
- What is the nature of God?
- What does it mean to be human and alive?
- How is the Sacred present in each of us and in our lives?
- What is the purpose of Beloved Community?
- How do we live in the face of death and loss?
These questions lay the foundation for our shared exploration, presented in age-appropriate ways to our children as they grow and mature.
On a given Sunday, some 300 children are participating in one of these programs. For more information, click on the links below.
- Nursery Care - loving care for children ages 6 months to 2 years 11 months
- Spirit Play - Montessori-style discovery and learning for children ages 3 through 5
- Workshop Rotation: The Journey In… -- Multiple intelligence-based exploration for school-aged children in grades 1 through 6
- Junior High Religious Education: Youth in grades 6,7, and 8 can choose between two different offerings each semester. These courses explore our faith as well as other world religious traditions.
- Our Whole Lives and Coming of Age - A dynamic year of change and growth for our 9th grade youth. OWL explores human sexuality and spirituality while COA supports youth in their efforts to create a personal credo.
- Tower Club - Youth in grades 10, 11 and 12 meet for fellowship food and fun. We discuss and approach social justice issues from the young liberal religious perspective. Meets Sundays from 4:30 until 7:30.
