Regardless of one's religion or spiritual orientation, yound adulthood is a time of transitions. Some of these transitions include graduating from high school, going to or graduating from college, finding a new home or apartment, getting a first "real" job, continuing education through graduate school, finding a romantic partner, starting a career,or starting a family. Most people's lives in their mid-30s look very different from their early 20s!
Unitarian Universalism is appealing to young adults for a variety of reasons. Many people are drawn to the theology of our faith: the belief that everyone is worthy of love, or the belief that the "Divine" is accessible to everyone. Some young adults are drawn to our non-dogmatic and creedless use of the best of the world's religions, drawing inspiration from a variety of sources and holding no religion superior to another. Many are struck by Unitarian Universalism's deep engagement with social justice issues, and our commitment to a congregation and a world that is inclusive of all races, classes, and sexual orientations. Some are simply looking for a spiritual community, a place where they can meet other folks that find beauty and inspriation in liberal religion.
At Unity Church-Unitarian we welcome young adults at whatever stage of developement they find themselves. We offer a variety of ways for you to experience spiritual growth, make meaningful connections with others, and live out your values in the world through social justice opportunities.
As Michael Tino, Director of Young Adult and Campus Ministry Office of the UUA says, young adults "are much more than our future. They are our present. Our undeniable, irrepressible, vibrant, idealistic, and honest present. They come to our congregations and our campus groups with energy and ideas; they bring a passion for justice, and a host of talents."
If you are a young adult come visit a Unitarian Universalist church to see if it feeds your soul!
